Hi all, I have just purchased a Prado 5 door 3 litre TD automatic, its my first 4x4.
At the bottom of gear shift thes a small red button with loads of Japanese writing, I'am frightened to push it in case its a self distruct button or something.
Does anyone know what it's for. |

got the same on my cruiser import. You need to press this button and hold it down whilst you shift into high range. _________________ If it ain't got a boiler or an ignition key, leave it alone! |

The little red button is there in case the footbrake release switch that allows the gear shift to be moved from PARK fails. As far as i am aware that is all it does.
Try it and see, mine didnt explode.

From the owners manual:
Pressing the red button allows the gear selecter to be moved when the engine is not running, for example if you need access to the radio panel etc.
It works like that on my Prado
