not sure why you harping on about size - men have always known size matters
The LinITX do seem better specced than the lilliput. Slightly more expensive though.
I like the auto on, auto switch for reverse camera, more VGA inputs etc. The lilliput might well have them but not mention them?
I will make up my mind tonight. PC on it;s way compliments of fleabay, monitor needs to be close behind it. _________________ Cheers,

Settled for this: Monitor
Is not the super bright one but seems ok. Pretty sure it'll do the trick.
Thanks to Fedex, I may even be able to play this weekend. _________________ Cheers,

I’ve just briefly read through this thread and I recall a site from another forum which might be of interest: http://www.jottodesk.net _________________ Peter

Best way to judge the screen sizes is to cut a bit of cardboard to the size published for that monitor and offer it up to the dash. If it will be mounted on a swivel then obviously you can swivel it out of the way to get at controls behind it but you don't want to be doing that too often. It's a while since I bought a screen so ther's no point me suggesting any particular one but the ones I and Ray have had from LinITX over the years have worked well. Do get the brightest you can afford and IMO 4:3 is a more useful format for displaying maps than 16:19 but may not look as smart.
My swivel mount is just an ordinary VESA small format screen mount, one of these: http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?id=ST01258 and I just modify the wall mounting part to suit. |
Jon,
That mount, is it smooth (resistive) movement or ratchet / notched like?
For example, the one that came with the monitor as well as a couple I have seen at the shops you must loosen the screw a lot, move it a few notches and re-tighten. Not ideal for this use.
For £10 for yours, you can't really go wrong... _________________ Cheers,

It's smooth and you set the resistance by how tight you have the joint bolts. I've just converted mine to a quick release as well _________________ Jon m0zxj

Here's a nice mounting idea: Gooseneck
Might be a bit on the short side for an LC from the seat mount but bolt it to the transmission tunnel? Or behind the dash and into the "cockpit"?
They also have ones for laptops. _________________ Cheers,

That looks like it might work quite well although if it's stiff enough to avoid vibration it might not be very easy to say flip round for the front seat passenger to navigate or choose music etc or just to move it out of the way of any minor controls you might have to obscure? _________________ Jon m0zxj

on second thoughts - it would vibrate far to much. _________________ Cheers,

I have one of those to mount my 7 inch wireless screen on. I have it screwed to the bottom of the dashboard just right of the transmission tunnel and then have use one of the mobile phone mounts (dashmount) to stabilise it) - have actually just tied into the bracket with a small black quicktie. It's solid as a rock. _________________ 1999 Land Cruiser Amazon VX Active 4.2TD Auto
