Just to prove we did get them dirty.

A full two days of this and nothing broke or fell off, unlike the Landrovers around us.

*beep*, that's a lot of cleaning to do.

And two hours later!!!!

Ecky,

Looks like you guys had a blast! Very nice!

I see that you're running what appear to be quite road-biased tyres - what are they and how did you find them this past weekend in the slushy stuff?
The reason I ask is that I am tormenting myself trying to choose new tyres for my 80. Rolling Eyes  I have similar bias tyres to yours and I'm trying to decide how extreme to go with AT or MT tyres because mine will need replacing soon and I want the best compromise between reasonable road manners and good off-road performance.

I bet you the cleaning up afterwards was fun.... Confused

Cheers,

Hi Zulu

I've got cheap and nasty Couragia's on the rear with General Grabber UHP's up front. Both are mud and snow rated. They are ace on road and really surprised me off road.
If you had seen the two mud pits I got stuck in you would know what I mean. (Hence the thick mud on the roof)

I just kept coaxing them backwards and forwards until I got myself out. Tommo thought I would need a tow both times but the tyres really shocked us both.

I think next time I would go for the ones Tommo has on his 95. They have loads of off road grip and it's amazing how quiet they are on road.
He has a link somewhere on the 90 section with the tyres he has.

I finished cleaning last night when it was turning dark and now in the daylight I can see all the places I missed..........Doh!!!!!

Thanks, Ecky!

I see from Tommo's signature that he has General Grabbers, which are my prefered choice at the moment. However, the feedback from various people with Cooper STTs has me 2nd guessing myself so I am toying between the two. I'm sure the Coopers are great off-road but on-road noise and grip in the wet is where I have concerns & I'm sure the Generals will be better.
Anyway, I think the most sensible comment is yours about your tyres surprising you despite not being hardcore mud pluggers!

Are you going to Lincomb Farm in April? I will be there - either sporting new tyres or keeping my fingers crossed with the old ones!  Laughing

Cheers,

Me 'n' Tommo will both be there in April.
I will still have the same tyres because I can't afford new ones yet. I need shocks & springs first (2" lift). The stock items are getting tired but still performed okay off road.

See you there.

Ha ha - I am in the exact same boat  Very Happy  - not sure if you've seen my posts on which suspension to go for etc etc?
So you reckon springs & shocks before new rubber? I am tending to go the other way - new tyres and then new suspension! It's going to hurt the pocket whichever way you go I guess!

See you in April!

Cheers,

I'll go and have a search of your posts. I've not sussed out the suspension yet.

Got some huge tyres and wheels in mind though. Just big enough not to cause any hassle with a 2" lift.

How very irresponsible of you both. I hope that you don't tell people that you are members of this forum, getting your cars all muddy like that. Did you HAVE to go through all of that? Surely you could have driven around.

Perhaps i'd better not mention your recent post of your 90 under water.

Can't see the point in driving around if you can drive through. I think i'm right in less distance = less carbon emissions. Or have I got that concept wrong somewhere?

Well you may have a point, I suppose. But think of the additional wear on your gears and the unnecessary wear on the leather of your shift knob. You could completely wear the finish off it. How would that look when you come to sell it!

The shorter distance is technically correct, but the coefficient of friction of mud more than counters the saving in distance I think you'll find.

Anyway, I was merely washing mine with natural water, not like you, wasting perfectly good drinking water and using all those harsh chemicals on your paintwork.

Hmph!

What tyres do you have in mind, out of interest?

One word comes to mind but it's even harsher than the chemicals I used. I think you must be confusing me with someone who gives a s**t.
And to think I thought southerners were weird!!!!!

The ones i'm looking at are just for off road so I would have two sets.
I believe these would fit; http://www.devon4x4.com/products_a/k12c/33-jungle-trekker-on-japanese-8-spokes.html
However I've got some checking to do first.

Holy smoke, that price brought a tear to my eye until I saw it was for 4!! The tyres look insane though Twisted Evil

I reckon the tyres will fit - certainly will with a lift but you will need to switch over to your cruiser rims or a spare set. Those rims won't fit - look like LR 5 stud and cruisers are 6 stud.

Cheers,

They do say they do a Toyota fitment, I think that is just a stock photo.
I will need the wheels aswell because i'm going to have the two sets.

Not too bothered about how the wheels look as long as they are tough.
