|

When I turn on the ignition of my 1996 prado 3.0 diesel the glow plug lamp only stays on for about 1 to 2 seconds, whether the engine is hot or cold, summer or winter. Is this usual? Now the temperature is dropping it some times turns over for quite a while to start if the engine is cold.
Any ideas please. |

Hi
I'm not sure why but my 96 prado is just the same, I find that if I turn the ignition on twice, giving the glow plugs two goes at heating up, the engine starts quicker.
Hopefully someone else will have a more technical answer.

Well, here in Bosnia my HZJ80 uses varying amounts of glow doses according to the temperature. Down to freezing 1 dose, to minus 10 two doses, lower than minus 10 three doses. And it does it no harm, plus all done on one small 12v battery for 4.2 litres !
Cheers
Jon

Here in Norfolk my 70 series takes about ten seconds for the light to go out at this time of year (temperatures 0 - 5 degrees C in the morning) while in summer it's 2 or 3 seconds. I'd be inclined to try a multimeter on the glowplugs to see when the current stops flowing and check the accuracy of the dashboard light. _________________ Norfolk'n'good |
