Hi Jon - Edit Ignore this post - OBD 2 port found!
Looked through the FSM most of the day today! Problem is that when following routines for manual diags the FSM assumes OBD diag port (16 pin plug near the brake pedal). Rather annoyingly my truck has the old diag port, which is entirely different.
Local dealer confirmed no OBD (based on chassis no). Told me to short out E1 (chassis ground) - TE1, however TE1 has no pin to bridge out.
Is there a previous FSM that shows how to diagnose the older style port near the air filter?
So far I have a good fuel filter, no air, a pump that is able to draw fuel from a bottle (by passing filter), engine speed sensor, Spill control valve and timing control valve all check out with correct resistance values and clicking (solenoid) can be heard when timing control valve is given a 12v supply. But no fuel squirts from injector fuel lines when nuts at back of pump are cracked off. Pump has ran a few times for 20 seconds or so after engine stalling (trying to nurse car back from Heathrow)... would this result lack of fuel to IP causing internal mechanical failure?
regards

AFAIK the fuel pumps are lubricated by engine oil not the fuel so running the pump without fuel for a bit shouldn't hurt. That FSM is from 98 onwards so I don't think you're missing anything that's available. Strange that you don't have the TE1 pin if everything says you should _________________ Jon m0zxj

Jon
The whole TE1 thing is a bit strange - I'll try calling toyo hq tomorrow:
The FSM references page IN - 19 (for example on page DI-25 diag 'short in harness or connector for timing control valve).
Are these pages missing / not available?

I've updated that pdf so download it again. That's the full engine manual now. _________________ Jon m0zxj

IP is lubricated by diesel. Can not take more than a few seconds w/o fuel.
Never heard of one w/o diag.plug under dash. _________________ 2004 HDJ100 AHC Auto 160'km, ex 2000 HDJ100, ex 1997 HZJ80GX Africa edition. |

Jon
Thanks for FSM! I've been able to answer a bunch of questions...
Nor - Thanks for that... always useful to have the hard truth - Looks like I have nailed the IP then Got an IP to rebuild and a TC to replace - this cars going to ruin me!
Everyone I speak to tells me that I must a have a OBD port above the brake pedal / under dash. Beginning to question my eyesight I know where the OBD port was on my '99 V8 LC. I can easily identify the EOBD on my Saab too! They are all 16 pin plugs right? Should be easy to find?? I thought that from '01 they were mandatory in Europe for petrol cars but optional for anything else

Here's a pic of the "missing link". http://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/109731-what-does-check-engine-light-mean.html#post1390134
Just over the accelerator foot on a LHD cruisah. On the RHD I think it is more like above the brake pedal, and further in and up. More hidden maybe. Difficult to tell from the 2-D drawing in The Book.
My old one was a June 2000 production HDJ, with the DLC3 connector. But anyways, I thought you could do all the same things in the Diag connector in the engine room? _________________ 2004 HDJ100 AHC Auto 160'km, ex 2000 HDJ100, ex 1997 HZJ80GX Africa edition. |

Guys...
You're all right! There is an OBD port and it is above the brake pedal (different to the V8). This is great! I should be able to get fault codes now.
On a slightly different note; I tested for resistance on the TDC sensor and on the 20K range got a reading of 3.78, I am no electrician but this is 3,780 ohms (I think). FSM states 19 - 32 ohms. How would this influence the absence of fuel to the injectors?
Thanks as always

Looks like you have found the problem.
Make sure you have a good connection when measuring before replacing the sensor. _________________ 2004 HDJ100 AHC Auto 160'km, ex 2000 HDJ100, ex 1997 HZJ80GX Africa edition. |

You're interpreting the meter reading correctly. As Nor said, make sure you have a good connection but you may have found your problem. Check what fault code you're getting though _________________ Jon m0zxj

False alarm! Working in the dark, I had the water temp sensor - realised as soon as I took it out this morning... TDC sensor is a bit lower down and tests ok!
However ECD relay should have continuity across terminal 1&2 (no continuity across 3&4). Doesn't buzz out but registers 71 ohms?? But when Terminals 1&2 are connected to 12volts continuity can be found across terminal 3&4 as it should.
Also when measuring voltage across ECU to ground, STA (Engine Starter valve - I think) with ignition on there is only 0.341 volts - which goes to zero when ignition is switched off.
Intend to test OBD for fault codes later and will post results, I'll also try to test spill control valve relay and timing control valve relay.
I'll post anomalies - of course comments on ECD relay resistance and STA voltage are welcome!
Cheers

Do you have the lists of the voltages/resistances you should find on the ECU & EDU? _________________ 2004 HDJ100 AHC Auto 160'km, ex 2000 HDJ100, ex 1997 HZJ80GX Africa edition. |

Jon was kind enough to post the full manual. So am able to work through a lot of it. I still searching for some of the relays, bit of perseverance and I should be ok. It's not as complex as I first thought, but the FSM needs to be read a few time before you get the hang of it!
My other challenge is that I've done plenty of house electrics and basic car electrics (eg, basic fault finding, fitting DVD stuff or wiring a tow bar), I only have a limited understanding of electronics which is slightly different, but the internet is a great tutor . _________________ E320 CDI Avantegarde, C320 CDI Avantgarde (AMG) Landcruiser 100 4.2 diesel series '01 Anniversary number 118, Fiat 500 classic 1970, Fiat 500 classic 1971, Fiat 1.2 Pop 2012. |
