First off `appy X Mas to all from me.
Second ,my rad has got a hole in it,when reversing a welding rod flicked up and into the back of the rad.Its an 80 1HDT Td auto with air con I know it will be expensive to replace but the question is :--Is it easy to remove and how to do it,I have visions of bleeding knuckles and blue air _again_. Sad Sad Sad Sad
Any answers will be welcomed.

You have to take both batteries and trays out. BEWARE if you have a factory alarm, it can go US if the batteries are disconnected. See discussions further down. Also, the bolts that go forward through the front panel may be rusted and snap, no big deal though.

I cut the corner out of my battery trays to make it easier the next time, as when I had mine recored it leaked (3 times) so in the end I just brought a new one from Toyota for a mere £550. I also cut the fan shroud in half so it could be removed easily. When they recore it, you need to make sure they check out the tranny cooling lines that run through the bottom of it. It's certainly not unkown for these to be rotten and fill the tranny with anitfreeze. You also need to make sure these are cleaned thoroughly when you get it back, otherwise any muck or testing water left in them will be in your tranny. Another reason why I went with brand new, plus the 3 year warranty.

Ta. Smile
The blokes doing my rad specialise in making vintage, obsolete or one offs and work out of (it looks like)an old stage coach repair shop.Ive trusted them before and had no complaints from any of my mates who have used the services of this company.
But,there is always a first time. Confused

May well be OK, just raising a couple of points for you to consider. Mine was done by Serck and leaked 3 times. Twice it leaked even before starting the engine! I think they all just buy in a new core and fix it to the existing top and bottom tanks. They obviously didn't even pressure check mine as the water was coming out almost as fast as I put it in.

Worth thinking about the internal cooling pipes, maybe they can replace them for you as well just to be sure.

Well I did it.
No leaks ,hooray.
If you have an auto with air con, instead of moving the air con condenser, the horizontal rad mounts 4 inches from the top have long bolts welded to the mount bush internally, after moving the battery trays its easy to hack saw through the end of the mount bush then drill a 9mm hole through the end and re-use the sawn off bolt using 2 more 8mm thread nuts(this may seem a bit of mental idiocy but when you look down from the top of the rad you will see what I mean).
Bruised knuckles, many cuts, lots and lots of swearing,5 cups of coffee and about 5 hours of work.
`appy.
