Got my brochure today and having a flick I was mentally trying to compare my LC5 with the new one. It's true there are lots more toys as standard and the general quality seems to have been improved 'premiumwise'. LC3 £29k, LC4 £40k and LC5 £44k.

Main things that struck me were:

1 Looks like most peole will be afraid to take it off road. No visible body protection at all. Current LC120 at least has removable door and wheel arch panels that can be replaced if they take a bash. Rubbing strips are an optional extra. WTF?
2 LC4 and 5 now have HID headlights as standard. About time too.
3 No manual t'box lever. Looks like H and L are selected from a rotary switch on the dash.
4 Looks like 5 sp auto is standard with no manual
5 centre diff is locakable with LSD
6 LC5 has rear locker too
7 rearmost seats fold into the floor
8 same naff engine in terms of refinement and output.
9 Only the LC5 has the godawful wood trimmings and steering wheel.
10 fewer body colours available and 2 leather interior colours remain the same. All but 1 metallic which is optional extra.
11 power heated rear seats in LC4 & 5
12 18" wheels on LC4 and 5. Off road ? No chance.
13 wading depth, attack angles etc etc all pretty much the same.

If I had £44k to spend on a new motor would I buy one? You know, I probably would. The engine refinement output/ emissions compared to VW/ Audi/ Merc/ BMW 6 cylinder are still a country mile behind but the reliability will win longterm. And I heard or read a rumour that a V6 diesel will be available. That can only be good. I still hate the fact that it has so obviously been targeted at the X5/ Q7/ Touareg brigade and has lost a lot of the inherent ruggedness as a result.

So an extra £15k for a bunch of trim and non-essential electrics plus a rear locker? An LC3 with a rear ARB locker fitted will be £30k and ready to roll off-road!

The 150 sounds like it's VERY focused on the Chelsea tractor market - it better have bullet-proof reliability because it's now competing in a class where its competitors are much more sophisticated in terms of on-road performance.... Confused

If I had that kind of money to burn I would get a new 76 Series. Sure, nowhere near as comfortable, but what a beauty

Still have loadsa money left over to kit it out nicely...

Test drove one the other weekend, had it for 3 days. Now its right upto date, it was the LC4, loads of gear, keyless start, reversing camera,loads of info, great economy, easily 35mpg on a run, high 20s around the farm. Same engine, but big difference, performance seems much improved and quieter.
Ordered one back before it was launched, get it 6th jan all being well,so be here for next cruiser weekend.
Sold our 120 3 months ago, to get a better deal, and borrowed a 90 from a friend of mine. They really are a dreadful thing to drive, why do folk by landies!! Its for my wife really, so not needed to drive it much, stick to my lux!!

Too right ,Jon. The 90 is a 2004 model, but it really is far worse than i could've emagined.I cant even fit in the drivers seat properly,or close the door,its so close to your arm. And also the steering, dreadful lock and also ...... too many things to mention. It is however kind of my friend to lend it to us,
