Just bought a 92 vx 4.2 manual with ABS. When slowing down, when I get to approx 5mph, the pedal vibrates and makes a buzzing noise and raises slightly. I've tried fitting new pads all round but to no avail...any ideas ? Also, I've noticed that when you put the cruiser in low range, it de-activates the ABS which then gets rid of the vibrating on the pedal. Is there a way I could dissconnect the ABS altogether and would it be safe to do so ? Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers...Lee.

Lee.

How quiet are your CV joints. The CV joint carries the ABS ring and the ABS sensor fits into the hub carrier. If the CV's are worn you could get this sympton - how do I know, my drivers side CV is in need of replacement - I have one, just haven't fitted it yet. I get the same vibration but not all the time, just when I have been over a few bumps or when I am turning a corner hard and this is when I notice the CV noise.

I would definately start there.

Yes if you can find the ECU for the ABS then you could trace the wire that comes from the low ratio ECU and fit a switch to disable the ABS. Personally with a truck as heavy as the 80 I would prefer to keep ABS although I knwo that earlier ones didn't have it.

Not a good idea to disconect ABS, sounds like a faulty sensor to me, also look at wireing from sensor, back along front axle, word of advice- the wiring can become brittle with age, so don't pull it about to hard. Sad

You've either got a dodgy wheel sensor, or the gap is too large, it's got dirt stuck between it and the rotor, or a dodgy wire. All it's doing is operatng the antilock because it thinks the wheels locking before it does.
