I have a Prado RZ import 3L automatic 1996. Recently it has started to rev as if the overdrive button is on but only on long journeys and once high revs cut in it goes up and down several times and then it settles back to normal. It goes back to normal and could be alright for the rest of journey or it could do it again within a few miles. Have checked transmission oil which is at correct level and also checked overdrive switch for loose wires but everything ok. Has anyone else had this problem

You say you checked the level, so did you do this with the engine running and gearbox hot, also did you check the colour and quality of the oil, maybe it's time for a fluid change.

Hi Andy
checked when gearbox was hot and it looked ok. Do you know if there's a filter that can be changed and if so where is it.

No filter as such, you will have a metal gauze which is inside the gearbox sump.
