This has happened only in the last few days, driving along and all of a sudden the stereo shuts off. Won't come back on for a few minutes, even with pressing power button. Then all stations are gone. Any ideas, probably power lead loose, how is the facia then removed? 2005 lc3 with bog standard cd player stereo

Probably either a power lead, or the earth lead.

Instructions for getting to the radio here (under owner/accessiories).  Take it slowly the first time - everything comes apart easily.  Takes 10 mins (max) to get the radio out.
