hi friends i own land cruiser hdj-80 all wheel drive model. i lifted front two wheels off the ground engaged ina gear it didnt move .lowered one front tyre on ground still it didnt move in gear .i tried similarily on rear wheels its same effect . until i shifted to 4 low gear or lock the centre diff .so why do we call its all wheel drive?

Andy your centre diff acts like an old style open diff on the axles.The axle diffs sends nearly all the torque to the front left wheel and rear right.The centre diff on the transmission is sending nealy all the torque to the rear wheels( until you lock it).
On older landcruisers the front axle is completely separated from the transmission until it is engaged.
