Have a copy on Michael Palins book on the New Europe.

In some ways exploring Europe as fascinating as Africa.

Anyone explored these countries?

Pete.

As often as I can. I would rather have a driving holiday in europe and the former eastern block than sunning myself on the costa packet.

just spent three months working in NW Russia, up by the Finnish border. Interesting stuff

rotten urban road surfaces, cobbles and protruding manholes meant the v8 Landcruiser was welcome in town

construction roads were typical Russian stuff, embankments of sand and gravel with a top layer  either of concrete pre-cast slabs or compacted gravel through miles and miles of trees

an interesting trip. Much easier to travel around than Sub-Saharan Africa!
