|
|
I'm currently building a 40/80 conversion, 80 series chassis and running gear (1HD-T) 40 series complete fibreglass body (extra cab) with a pick up rear.
I bought the body from roycreations in France and collected myself.
I'm in devon if anyone wants a gander or info, the kettle's on |

Any chance of some pictures of the build?
Roycreations built 2 HJ45s for the Dakar, when it was still in Africa, a few years back. If memory serves one finished.
Your build sounds very interesting.

Rodger

I'm near Seaton in Devon.
I had a full load, van and trailer, so prob wouldn't have had much space left!
I will sort some pictures, I have loads, but of fairly random items along the way. The body is mounted, and part insulated. This will have to be finished along with carpets before I can finally fit the rollcage (which the seats etc mount to). There are loads of fiddly jobs to do yet...... |

I thought maybe I'd start my own thread showing some of the build progress of this project I am building for a customer.
The donor vehicle is a 1991 4.2 80 series 1HD-T. This was totally stripped and the body sold. In it's place is a 40 series extra cab fibreglass body and a toyota rear pickup bed. All the running gear is original other than a few enhancements along the way. Because of the nature of the fibreglass structure I have built the interior around a full cab rollcage which is mounted directly thro the floor to the chassis. This way if the worst happened and the truck was to roll, then the driver and passenger would remain secure within what is effectively a safety cell.
Here are a few (random) pictures for the moment;
The picture below is part way thro when the replacement body was mocked up and mounted along with the roll cage prior to any paint (and before any work was carried out to the chassis and running gear).

I agree that looks awesome. Not seen the fiberglass kits before either.
Keep posting! |

A few more from having the chassis blasted and powder coated and with the axles fitted after I rebuilt them.

Here are some replacement steps I fabricated as the fibreglass imitation ones just wouldn't fulfill our needs. The offside one also acts as a heat shield for the exhaust system.

These are a pair of bulkhead plates I made to strengthen the area where the pedals and steering column go thro into the engine bay. I also sound and heat proofed these before fitting as it was easier to make on the bench than trim later.

Here is a picture of how I will seal the rollcage foot to the body. Basically it is a peugeot 205 CV gaitor which I have doctored and streched over the rollcage foot, the top part will be bonded to the underside of the fibreglass body to seal the inside.
