Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has fitted functioning rear lights on their Colorado? Mines a 51 plate lwb and obviously due to our road laws they only have the lights on the rear bumper, the ones above are dummies. I believe it’s to do with the position of the spare wheel and rear lights need to be visible from all angles. If I want working rear light is it simple as ordering a pair and plugging them in? Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this!

Thanks in advance Smile

Hi.
You can get the bumper lights from Milners 4x4 Matlock
Ask for the Toyota parts they are much better than the aftermarket ones.

You may need the Metal surrounds as well.

I made a box out off aluminium to protect them once installed inside the bumper...

Regards

Paul

Hi,

Apologies I wasn’t very clear. What I’m actually looking for is the rear lights (ones above the bumper lights) obviously they don’t light up but I’ve read somewhere you can buy lights that come with the bulbs & wiring and it’s a simple plug & play.

Thanks Smile

Hi, on my 1999 5 door Colorado the rear nearside light cluster is effectively a dummy unit. Whereas the right cluster is used as a reversing light and fog light. I did run an extra pair of wires so that I would have a second reversing light in the left hand cluster unit. I had to obtain a light base holder to fit into the cluster. I do not recall any redundant wiring or light bulb bases near the light clusters. If you want to reactivate the original light cluster units rather than the bumper mounted light clusters. it would be possible with a bit of rewiring and getting light bases to fit but you would have to make alternative provision for a fog light by possibly using the existing bumper light cluster. . As mentioned in a previous comment, this would detract from the legal requirement which called for the lights to be bumper mounted due to the partial visual obstruction by the door mounted spare wheel. I decided to retain the bumper mounted light clusters to negate any possible MOT failure from a picky tester.
