Hello! I have a 2002 Colorado and the ignition barrel and key is very worn. It works but it's possible to pull the key out when the engine is running and I would like to fit a new barrel and get 2 new keys. I've just called Toyota and a new matched barrel is £55 which is fine, but the keys are £401 each!! That is obviously matched to the vehicle. The other option was to buy a new barrel (internals) which would come with one key (maybe 2 he didn't know), this would not be matched to the vehicle. This was £185 but if it only comes with 1 key I'd have to pay £110 for a new blank key and this will have to be coded in, which is more expense.
So, is there another way? I really want thew car to just work, and not have to mess about with switches and bypassing the immobiliser.
Thanks, Matt

I had a problem with my key sticking, I could put the key in but it would not turn at all.

Take off the cowling around your ign key, remove the little transponder receiver if that’s what’s its called around the end off the key hole, if you can put your key in a can turn it to acc do this, then on the side of the ign barrel you will see a tiny little button press this and pull your key the ignition barrel should now come out, I cleaned my off with brake cleaner as it washed the *beep* out of it. Put it back dry don’t oil it.
If your key will not turn you have to give the barrel a good hit with a hammer and piece of wood, and I mean a good hit (a oh f ck this type of hit) this should help you turn it to acc for removal. I done my three years ago and its still going now.

Do not buy one from Toyota you don’t need one.
