Hi Guys,
What to look for first on my 3ltr Turbo diesel engine.
When starting this morning all I got was a Click but no engine cranking. This happened a couple of times then fired up as normal. Batteries are good ( I think) showing 13.8 volts.
May be starter solonoid contacts. Starter not been a problem for all the time I have had the LC (about 12 years).

What do you recommend.

Regards

Paul

thanks for the reply.

I am having trouble getting the plug off the the solenoid at the moment.

Do you happen to know the starter motor power, could be 2.2.2.7,or 3.0 KW.

Hi,
Had this problem a few years ago ,you can  determine what starter you have by the size of the live connection thread on starter one is 10 mm and other 13 mm can't remember which is which , some googling should help.

Thanks for the info,

The nut on the live terminal is 17mm. Motor is 3kw.

I had trouble removing the plastic plug from the solenoid.  It did come off in the end.

I have decided to replace the complete starter motor. It has been on there from when the LC was new in 1997. almost 200K miles.

I will pick the new starter motor on Monday.  Price is appox £150.

Regards

Paul

Hi guys,
I have fitted my new starter motor.  Its very heavy and difficult to get out and then back in.

The contacts inside the old solenoid were in better condition than I expected. At 25 years they were worn but not all worn away. With a good clean could have lasted a bit longer.

The solenoid renew kit is approx £50 so better to replace the whole motor at £150. Good for another 25 years.
