Been advised that the above piping is corroded and needs to be replaced at a cost of 2300 sterling. Anyone know what this process entails mechanically to justify this cost? Engine removal? |

When you say the piping ! do you mean the A/C in the back?
You don't say which modal but I had the problem and I got a A/C expert who cut the bad bit out and spliced in a new piece and it was about £50 but it has been fine since _________________ 2004 Amazon 100 series

Agree with Steve, depending if anything else needed.
Find a mobile independant who doesnt want to replace everything in sight like some garages that just dabble.
Someone's just done that on the other side. |

The reason the pipes corrode is because they are made of Aluminium, I presume you are talking about a 100 series, so the rear A/C pipes are routed under the car and at one point cross over the chassis and under the body, the pipework is formed in several sections, but the most common corrosion point is at the rear because of all the *beep* the accumulates at the rear, Toyota say that to replace the section between the chassis and body the body has to be lifted (not removed) from the chassis, thats why the cost is so high, the cost of the parts are bad enough, but the labour costs the most.
Any competent automotive A/C enginner would be able to replace/repair the leaking section, expensive specialist tools and equipment are required, not to mention the experience and knowledge to go with it, so it's beyond most diyers.
I spent most of my working life as an A/C engineer (not automotive), when my rear A/C pipe started to leak, I just re-routed the pipe work and used copper tube, I have read some people have used flexible hydraulic hose and fittings.
So, as the 'know it all' Tractionman says "Find a mobile independant who doesnt want to replace everything in sight" it will be a lot cheaper. _________________ I love my country, but I fear my government. Build Back Better B.S, You will own nothing, but you will be happy. Anti Woke. 🤷♂️ |

The blind leading the blind then, anyway, when we all have EV's (can't bring myself to say eletric) God forbid, I ain't got a clue how their A/C works and don't wan't know. I would rather crawl everwhere until my hands and knees were bloody than own an EV. _________________ I love my country, but I fear my government.
