I write in the hope that somebody might be able to help me with the following problem with my 1996 Landcruiser VX Amazon 4.2, 24 valve, 1HD-FT/HDJ80R:
For some time the dash lights are coming on/off while the vehicle is in use. I have changed the 3-pin plug at the back of the alternator, tested the leads to the next plug and socket. All was okay for some time but then the dash lights returned to on/off again.
I then began to think that maybe there was a problem with the internal connectors on the 3-pin plug or a fault in the internal electronics of the alternator (the output from the alternator was 14.2V).
I installed a new alternator, checked out the plug cable and other connections with no change to the dash lights and again the alternator output was 14.2V. The lights no longer flashed on/off, they are permanently on.
Looking at the wiring diagrams, there is a 7.5V fuse and a relay in the circuitry. Would anyone have any ideas where these items might be located? I have checked all the fuses that I can find, all okay.
I welcome to any suggestions you may have.
Many thanks, Martin
