Hi Guys on my Colorado the engine management light has decided to come on. Always on the same scenario when I'm coming down a steepish hill and lift of the throttle. When normal driving is resumed the light goes out and all is good again.
Advice sought anybody had a similar scenario? Should I be worried? Is a local garage likely to be able to find a fault code? Any advice gratefully received

Thanks Richard

Do you feel a drop in power?  I've had something a little like that, though for me driving uphill.  For me it's the boost sensor cutting fuel, and lifting off in my case turns the EM light off.

Hi Andy Thanks for your response. No drop in power. In fact I can't notice any ill affects at all, it all feels fine

Regards Richard

It doesn't sound like it's the same in that case as the power drop from the fuel cut is very noticeable.  Is there a fault code recorded?

Hi Andrew I will have to take it to someone with the correct equipment to plug it in and see if there is a fault code. I did notice that my oil level is a little high on the dipstick. Do you think this would cause the management light to come on?

You can do it yourself with a couple of inch piece of wire, or a paperclip.  This is a good reference article for the process and the codes - https://www.2carpros.com/articles/toyota-trouble-code-definitions-and-code-gathering-method-1990-1995

As for the oil level, I don't know of a reason for an oil overfill bringing the EM light on.  Are you reading the dipstick with the engine running?
