Hi DJR,
Sure, your quite right, the on-board fuel filter is for filtering fuel.
FUEL BOUGHT FROM THE FORECOURT, which is already relativley clean, say to 5 ~ 10 micron.
the fuel made at home with used oil, and filtered through "tights" would only at best, be filtered to say, 30 micron.
The on-board fuel filter will not last any length of time before it is totally blocked, and leaving you stuck on the motorway.
The fuel filter in your fuel system will filter out particles greater than say 5 micron, to protect your fuel pump etc.
My brother has learned the hard way, as he was into using oils, perhaps 5 ~ 6 years ago.
Now he has it all down to a fine, flawless art.
Look out for this item
20 inch sediment filter, commonly called "big blue" in the filter housing, wjich is industrial, you can select almost any off the shelf elements to slip inside it.
My bro' is using 2 off these filters in series, first one is 50 micron element, the second is 5 micron.
This is on a continual recycle out the mix tank, and back into the mix tank, he then has a take-off pipe, through a tap to fill his vehicle. |
