| i recently upgraded to an 04 lc3 and was wondering if any one has used veg oil in this engine , I previosly owned a 2000 v reg 3.0 l auto colorado and ran this on 50/50 mix with no problems |

| I dont think you can , different type of engine ,have a look on the Elsbett site it will be expensive but with fuel costs and the time you intend to keep the vehicle it might be a good selling feature in the future . |

I wouldn't use SVO in anything. I work as a patrol for a national company (not the RAC the other one) and see the consequences of SVO. The problem is glycerin, it gets in the piston ring grooves and contaminates the engine oil. I'm always going out to cars and vans with these SVO heat exchange systems fitted. The owners then tell about all the parts they've had to replace since running on SVO - injectors, pumps, engines!!!!
Biodiesel is the way to go. I've made it and you see the glycerin, about 20% of the total volume, sink to the bottom of the tank after processing. It is horrible dark brown cack, looks a bit like baked treacle! You don't want that in your engine. However, I'd avoid biodiesel made from waste oil. The quality and cloud point vary wildly as does the methyl ester content. |

Your engine is EU4 compliant and has injectors that are very sensitive to crud. I have been running an old Mercedes 300D on 50/50 Veg. Oil Diesel mix and it is fine but everything I have read so far indicates that use of SVO as a fuel in a modern engine like yours is not that good an idea.
Anyway, I was in Costco yesterday and Veg. Oil in 20 Litre drums was 76p per litre and for me it is getting marginal in terms of money saved versus the aggro. |
