Last two vehicles I've run needed a replacement exhaust box .. instead of replacing the box Partco supplied some steel flexipipe. For a n/a diesel and the turbodiesels I've done this to have produced much smoother and greater power .. albeit not so much on the n/a ford engine.
there are 3 parts to the TD exhaust, the piece on downpipe (CAT?) another smaller box and an enormous silencer ... has anyone successfully bypassed any of these boxes??
many thanks

To be honest, sounds like a good idea as long as the sound isn't to much. Had to replace the front pipe on my 93 and fitted a Milners supplied one, it has a flexi in it already. I have heard that the 1HDT benefits from a larger bore exhaust to allow it to be more free lowing and allow the turbo to spool up faster which is probably what helped on the previous and why the turbo was better than the Normally aspirated. _________________ 1999 Land Cruiser Amazon VX Active 4.2TD Auto

hi andy, no doubt you are right that the turbo responded better, getting a squirt of diesel but waiting for the turbo to spin gives a bit of lag and a puff of smoke .. the engine note on both flexpipe vehicles sounded meatier, bit more 'bass' but not badly affected. the LC system has such a huge silencer if that was bypassed I think it may actually be too loud ... but the CAT and smaller box .. that'd be better ... |

A good mod on the 2.4TD engine in the Surf and the LC2 is a 3 inch front pipe and 2.5 inch rest of the way instead of the 2 1/8 pipe normally fitted. 3 inch pipe straight through on the 4.2 would do it with a decent quality silencer. Has yours got a CAT, mine hasn't, didn't think they fitted one till the 100 series. _________________ 1999 Land Cruiser Amazon VX Active 4.2TD Auto
