Hi there can anyone give me any advice on removing my radio/cd from the center console, It's a double din radio/cd but i can't see any slots or holes for any removal keys and i don't want to dive in round the thing with a screwdriver and make a mess. Thanks Sandcastle. |

Yes, I can. You will need a thin flat 'blade' like a piece of ribbon brass or steel. Start with the trim along the transmission tunnel by the handbrake. Use the blade to ease up the metal effect trim, then the curved section that joins the dash by the ashtray. This will get you in you will be able to see the fixings. The blade can be used above the heater vents to pry away the centre console away from the dash. I can't give you precise step by step details, I have to assume a degree of ability on your part - but taking the ashtray out is helpful. All of the connections are unique - you cant connect the air con to the clock for example when you put it back together. There are some fixing bolts holding it in (4 I think) and then a firm steady pull from the top will get it off.
It's not that tricky once you get started. I had mine off a dozen times at least. I fitted a Pioneer 7" flip up sat nav. I got a RAV 4 fitting kit which gave me a little slot under the unit. Handy for bits and bobs. The whole thing was actually held in without any screws or anything. As it was lease car it had to go back without screw holes etc.
I still have the fitting kit I think. Let me know if you want any details.
Let me know if you get stuck

Hey, when you know - say so, when you don't shut up and learn! That's what I say. Glad I could help. Are you going to change your head unit? Just be aware that a double din unit is usually smaller than two single units stacked. Odd I know, but with two singles you obviously have twice the metal between them. I had a Blaupunkt unit with an indash 5 CD changer. It wouldn't fit. That's why I had to use the RAV 4 kit to give me a little cubby hole. I might have a picture somewhere. As I say - I still have the cubby hole I think.
