Has anyone had problem with 03 LC5 front brake calipers sticking? Any ideas where to buy new or re-conditioned calipers cheaper than £280 each!! Or if anyone knows if you can convert later single piston model to fit? Or if calipers from any other car fits? Thanks

Don't panic!

It isn't unusual for Toyota calipers to stick. Provided they are not damaged, you can free the pistons with a squirt of WD40 and then follow the clean and grease process I described in the 'DIY Projects' section under Running Gear etc.

I used a few pictures from my 100 series but the same procedure works on any of the calipers. The red brake grease is essential as without it, water will quickly cause the piston to stick again.

Yo can get new seals and strip the caliper down but usually the red grease treatment works fine without. However, if the brake has stuck on and overheated, the seals may be damaged (in effect burnt) and should be replaced.

there is damage to dust seals and they dont do replacements ..only a whole repair kit £80 i wondered if calipers from 3ltr surfs fit as look the same. toyota are quoting £288 for new calipers & you cant get recon units as very rare .milner off road do surf calipers for £85.

Check out this part no, 47750-60060, this is for an 80 series, if by chance it's right for yours then iv'e got a brand new genuine yota one still in the box, yours for £200

I've had the same problem on mine an 54 LC3, I'm pretty sure it was the first set of pads to get replaced and was accompained by a new pair of front calipers.

Many thanks to Toyota UK, while the car was outside warranty they contributed towards the cost of the replacement calliers as it shouldnt really happen.

Currently I've got the original calipers sitting on a shelf here along with the complete seal kit and I'll refurb them myself at some point - I've had to do it a few times in the past with an old Kawasaki (that's a bike you know;))

Sadly my LC also required a new set of alloys when I replaced the first set of tyres, luckily that was within warranty
