Very nice. Looks like the ARB commercial bar on the front.
Just a tip, try not to pull out in reverse. It's not good for the front diff I understand. Where possible, turn around and pull as nature intended. Result can be a diff casing full of broken teeth.

Well, like a say, it's going to end in tears if you snatch too many people backwards.

Sorry this is a bit late, but better that than never.
I assume from the reaction of the pulling motor that the strap used for the recovery was not a kinetic one.
If that case, DO NOT TRY DOING THAT AGAIN PLEASE.
The forces involved, even at slow speed, are considerable and broken teeth in a diff. would be the least of your worries.
Use kinetic energy recovery as a last resort.
Use a correct nylon rope or strap.
Make certain the recovery points are up to the job. Standard Toyota tow points WILL NOT DO.
Use a blanket or jacket or some such draped over the halfway point of the rope/strap to cushion the snap back if things do go wrong.
Make certain that all onlookers are outside the area that the rope/strap could possible fly through.
Kinetic energy is potentially dangerous. The army only allows it's use on armoured vehicles.
If you have any doubts as to how it should be done or the correct fittings and rope/straps that should be used, then seek advise. David Bowyer is reputed to be the one to ask.
Just remember this, do you want to have to stand up in a coroners court and explain why your best friend died?

No, my point was that as diffs are cut in a beveled fashion, not straight cut, their principal mode of operation is forwards. Pulling backwards is not where their strength lies. I have had extensive experience of static straps and been involved in many failures (industry, not off road). I have never seen energy stored and released from a webbing strap breaking. But, similarly I have never seen what happens when a kinetic fails but I can imagine.
Sound tips on snatching Roger, but not the point that I was making personally. I would add to Roger's comment that in some circumstances, you can just stick the bonnet up. Makes a good windscreen protector.

I watched the videos and came to the same conclusions as Roger.
One other thing and this is directed at everyone who posts 4x4 videos on U-Tube.... WHY do people feel the need to put music soundtracks over the video footage? Surely it is far more interesting to hear what people are saying or shouting? |
