Hello again all,

Still on the case looking at a Colorado and was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what mpg returns they are getting from the petrol version?(or even just let me know what it's meant to be Sad )

Much has been posted on here about the diesels (naturally) but i'm seriously looking at the petrol version now as well. Several thousand less for any given year/trim, bit more poke and for the milage i'll do p.a (10,000mls or less) it really only comes down to a couple of hundred quid in juice a year.

While i'm on the subject , provided it's been looked after , I understand buying a diesel cruiser with in excess of 100k miles on the clock is not a problem but do the petrols have the same in-built longevity?

Any help appreciated,

regards,

G

I have Prado 3.4 5VZ-FE model 2002 petrol and it giving me 5km per liter in city and 6km on highway with aircon on. Apart from others the main difference I feel is the driving pleasure in the petrol version of the vehicle, while driving you never feels that you driving a Jeep instant you feel like you are driving a powerful luxury car.

best regards.

Well ive jumped in and bought one. Pick it up in a couple of days. Will run some fuel tests over the next couple of weeks and report back my findings for anyone that might want to know.

To a similar query earlier in the year I wrote,
"To give you some more "real life" info - just completed a 1500 mile (1464 to be precise) round trip over the Easter hols. Most of the trip was done on M'ways @ (cruise controlled) 70mph.

My '97 3.4VX auto used 279 litres of UL sourced (wherever was cheapest at the time) which works out at 23.8mpg.

Not bad I'd say.... "

However since then, I've had a cat-back full SS exhaust system installed from Powerflow and can happily say that I get around 25mpg for the same journey.  Laughing

Thanks both to Vagabond and ajfarooqui for your replies. Done a couple of short fuel tests. First returned 29.7mpg! and the second a more realistic 22.8mpg.

I have thought deeply about how to account for these differing results and would humbly suggest that it is down to using different petrol stations to re-brim the tank. Some pumps may have their backpressure cut-off set much higher and so 'full' comes much quicker.

For full info:

Driving done over a 30/70 % urban/motorway split with an average speed of 65mph, aircon on about 50% of the time-setting (one above low). I must also confess to giving it the odd squirt of juice just to hear the V6 growl  Very Happy )

I will now do a much longer test over about 300 miles and let the list know if anything changes.

This aftermarket exhaust system sounds very interesting Vagabond. I will do some further research-thanks,

G

The only reason why I went for the SS system was that I needed a new center box, while I was at it, it made sense to change the rear box too as that was also on it's last legs. These parts are dealer only (for the 3.4VX) and would have come to ~£600 for the 2 boxes alone!  Evil or Very Mad  Embarassed  Evil or Very Mad

Therefore I investigated the option of having a SS system - powerflow were generally well regarded and they have agents all over the country.
I went to my local agent and had a full SS system from the cat back custom made and fitted for less than £350 all inc.  Smile

It guaranteed for life (as long as I am the owner) so they must be fairly confident of the quality. The added mpg is a bonus as is the rorty exhaust note  Wink

Some more "real life" info;

I just did a 1241 mile round trip over the half-term hols and used 237.5 litres of UL. That works out at 23.7mpg - pretty much the same as before when I did similar journey over Easter.

However this time I did most of those miles at a cruise-controlled 70mph and sometimes a bit more  Wink  (this is 70mph according to SatNav, about 78 indicated on speedometer). Whereas last ime I stuck to 65mph pretty much for most of the journey.

So the SS exhaust may have given me 1-2mpg more had I stuck to my previous speed limit. That more than compensates for the less refined (i.e. slightly noisier) SS system.

Cheers,
