Hi, Looking for help on a problem with my wife's '99 Colorado. Some weeks ago the electric aerial stopped working normally and would only raise the mast to about 5ins and then stop... it goes down again when the radio is switched off. A local garage checked it out and advised me to replace it. I sourced a used unit and replaced the old one very easily..... the problem is that this mast also only raises a few inches and stops just like the original, it looks like the issue is elsewhere?...any ideas?

(Thankfully my HDJ80 has a manual mast with up and down switches!!)

Any help with the Colorado issue would be appreciated.

I would take it out and connect it to another 12v source and see if it will reach its full extension.

Connecting it to another power source makes sense.... but there are 6 wires from the unit to choose from and I don't want to damage anything as the full retail replacement is more than £250?

Thinking about it, the symptons are that the power is not 'on' long enough to raise the mast fully. How might this be controlled? I'm not an electrician in any way but might it be by a capacitor like arrangement providing the current to raise the mast for a set time and the same again to lower it? Therefore my problem is away from the aerial assembley and somewhere under the bonnet or inside the car's loom?

Having the same issue with two aerials also appears to back this up?

Confused  vagabond i'm also thinking "up/down switches"
on mine(and most others i believe), if you power the aerial down manually it doesn't go completely down, stays out approx 3inches,ignition off doesn't reset it, so if you forget it was lowered manually, the next time you use it, it only comes out 3inches or so.
assume this is not the case ! (sometimes its the simple things, i know believe me Embarassed )
if not, check the switch(if fitted  Laughing )
good luck
