Colorado rear axle difflock not working

My 98 Colorado rear difflock has stopped working,  With centre difflock engaged and rear difflock switched on all that happens is the axle difflock light flashes (even after driving a few yards).  Anyone know if this is likely to be a simple electrical problem or do I need to strip it down?  It was working a year ago but gets little use.

Strip and clean the actuator, not the whole axle!
