|
|
Hi All
Just acquired V8 after several petrol LC5's. Whilst majority of driving is on road, it will be used regularly off road during winter months, typically on muddy tracks. Unfortunately car comes with blingy 20" wheels, has anyone tried the AT tyres in this size, or put on 18" wheels available in other countries? Any advice, experience would be welcome.
Also, has anyone worked out how to alter brighness of navigation screen at night?
So far car is fantastic on roads and consumes the miles (and fuel) with ease.

As I can because of my business I am having some 305/50x20 General AT2's sent over to try but in the mean time I am fitting 285/50x20 Cooper LTZ's.
Picked up a spare set of 20" alloys so can have the best of both worlds. |

For winter tyre try 285/50x20 Dunlop Grandtrec SJ6, bit pricey but it's a big tyre. |

This may not help off road, but could be of use to anyone looking for severe weather/ snow tyres (snowflake on mountain peak) for the V8's 20" wheels. After two years of spasmodic searching** I found NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA R SUV 285/ 50 R 20/ 116 R XL made by Finnish tyre company Nokian, in Russia. After 2K miles as cold as -10C including Alpine snow, icy mountain hairpins and streaming French motorways I'm very pleased. The car seems unstoppable and, in my circumstances more important, much safer.
The UK distributor, Nordic Tyres, is in Lockerbie but will despatch tyres anywhere in the UK. They're helpful: although they don't keep these in stock they will ship them in to order within a few days. They cost £216 per tyre plus VAT, and delivery was £20.
To make the twice-yearly swap easier, I also located replica wheels made by a reputable wheel maker, WSP Italy. They are carefully marked "not OEM" on the reverse/ inside, otherwise you'd never know, and cost less than half the price of Toyota parts. I got them on the Internet from an Irish company, Performance Alloys.
The icing on the cake - my local Toyota dealer offered to store the "spare" wheels and tyres FOC between swaps.
** I know that Dunlop have introduced a winter version of the Gran Trek - because I don't rate highly the all-year/ summer version which is the OEM tyre I was reluctant to go for it: hence the search. |

Brightness of navigation screen: linked to the brightness of the instrument panel, adjusted with knurled knob to the left of the ODO/ trip button, on the right hand side of the dash. |
