I was wondering if there is anybody out there who is using chip fat or vegetable oil old or new in a 4.2 diesel engine on a 60 series car?

I know people who use new vegetable oil in similar age diesels with no adverse effects.

I'm using veg oil in my 80 Series 4.2 TD. I've a two tank system with heat exchanger. I start on diesel and change over to veg once the engine is up to normal running temp. I have no problems at all, but wouldn't recomend running on straight veg oil without some form of heating to the oil, as it'll knacker your fuel pump.

the hj60 series 4.0l diesel will run on almost anything. I knew a bloke who had 2 in a boat and drained his engine oil into a nearly full fuel tank with no advrse effects. I ran mine on cracked veg oil ("biodiesel") for a year no problems , the car is still running well , and emissions were very very low

Depends on your engine and fuel pump. I would imagine that you could run a fair concentration given the warm ambient temperature you have out there, but I'm only guessing.

what's the use of using alternative fuel ..the chancellor only lets you have the road tax £15 per annum cheaper  ok it's cheaper but you still have to pay friggin' excise duty on your alternative fuel anyway .. be ok if you do over 50,000 miles a year but not if you only tug a trailer now and agin .. and don't take the kids to school in it .. gordon brown is a vvanker now i've said it !!!  Evil or Very Mad

Good point. You have to pay 48.35p/l duty to run on svo, so it makes it more expensive than diesel. I run mine mostly on diesel, as my green credentials don't go as far as giving it away. I do however, run on svo for part of the month in an effort to ease my concsience for all the carbon I'm emitting. Plus it's strangely satisfying knowing that I can run the car on veggie oil! Sad I know! Smile

yeah also in trinidad the rules probably don't apply
i was buying duty free veg oil for a while to run my forestry gear on a bit more sustainably, but thats been stitched up now by rising waste oil prices.....they're transporting waste v o by lorry ( running on...mineral fuel) to germany and holland in order to fulfil their "green" agenda. How dafts that?
