Hi,
I dropped my 100 Series 1999 Landcruiser (1FZ-FE) into my local mechanic to have a rear engine seal fitted.  On collection he told me that when they lowered it off the hoist and attempted to start it, the engine made a loud bang and would not start , but the engine was turning over.  He said he thought it might be a broken timing chain.  I decided to have the car towed home so that I could establish exactly what had happened.  According to the Toyota Factory workshop manual you have to remove the head and sump before you remove the timing chain cover.  I have the head off and all the bolts out of the sump.  The sump is really stuck on firmly.  The manual specifies where to prise off the sump but it is extremely hard.  Does any one have any clues about how to prise the sump from the engine block?
