Doing a wheel bearing replacement on an HJ60 '89 and the oil seal that goes on the inside of the heel bearing is a metal housed rubber seal. on one side of the metal housing it is flat, on the other side there's a raised ring of metal that goes all the way round

When all mounted up, should it be flat side facing the engine, or the other way round/flat side facing out?

Thanks guys

In the FSM it looks like the flat surface faces the engine, but the diagram is not the clearest, nor does it mention anything about which way it goes.

l assume you mean the seal iside the steering knuckle, the flat side needs to face outwards towards the wheel...done this job a few times, use the best quality seal you can get,but dont be surprised if it leaks a bit,you may not be able to feel or see it ,but there WILL be a very slight groove where the seal bears on the axle, dont worry the oil will find it!!!!
