Just got my first cruiser an 84 60 and it was advertised as a 5 speed but can only get 4 also looked in manual and it shows gear layout with 4 speed having reverse away to the left and back and 5 speed to the right and back, and mine is to the right and back so does that mean I have 5 sp with a problem or do some 4sp have the reverse to the right and back?

Sounds to me like someone went underneath and nicked it while it was stood waiting to be sold!!

I hope this is helpful

If its a 5sp ,it will have H55f stamped on the plate on the firewal. I think 84 was the year the 5sp was introduced ,so you may have the last of the 4speeds.
The 4sp will have H40, or H41 stamped on the firewall plate.Maybe even H42
