Can anybody help a newbie please, I am in the process of importing a 1979 BJ41, which I owned for less than 6 months while I was living and working outside UK. My car is in UK now but HM Customs need me to supply a valuation of my car so they can determine how much import duty to charge me. I paid the equivalent of £8000 for it back in January, and have a receipt for this from the seller, but HM customs are requesting an independent valuation either from a Uk garage, trader or owners club, I have to have this before they will issue me a NOVA reference so I can get it registered for my use now I am back in UK.
Has this been requested before? Can anybody help? I am more than happy to pay the import duty and VAT, and I think £8000 was a fair purchase price. I am not trying to flip the car for a profit, I love the car and want to keep it for own use, can the TLOC supply me with a valuation?

I would think that any independent valuation would be much more than what you paid, all depends on  the condition of truck, so why do HMC not accept the paid value.

I,m pretty sure HMRC should take the price you paid as the basis for VAT & Duty not what someone thinks it's worth no matter how knowledgeable.

I hope it all works out well for you and it will be great to have another BJ41V in the UK I imported mine straight from Japan.
