I went to get a spare key cut today and was told that the key has a transponder in it, this is good news on the security front but not on the wallet.

Is this standard on the 96 Prado?

I have just bought a spare key for my 98 colarado, there are two types of keys, a black one which is a master key, and grey one which is a sub key,

the dealer said that it is better to buy a master key than a sub key, 'cos if you loose the master key then you cannot buy a spare key of any type without buying a replacement transponder system £1500

The spare key cost around £20, and £45 ish for matching to the car Confused

not that i'm aware of !
got a spare cut for mine no probs ,think it was about £7

only difference being that the spare hasn't got the lock/unlock buttons
not an issue though cos the alarm does the locking the key is only to start
