Hi,
I have a 2002 Colorado VX D4D. I have for some been concerned about the auobox although the dealer says it's fine (this is the first auto I've had so it may be me) . Sometimes it holds on to gears when cold but from other posts that appears to be expected behaviour to protect the box. Also seems very noisy when cold then suddenly goes quiet, but (again from other posts) that also seems to be a design feature, part of quick warm up, the dealer also mentioned that you may get a knocking sound until warm.
That just leaves the problem when changing up into overdrive, the revs drop, then drop again by about 200rpm, almost as if it is slipping then catches. If I switch off overdrive then switch on under heavy acceleration, the revs rise rather than fall, again my assumption is slippage. I don't experience any other signs of slipping. The autobox oil does not seem too blackened or smell burnt. Although the dealer has replaced the oil a couple of times, they did say it seemed a bit black on one occasion.
The car is under extended warranty for another month and I am concerned that something is failing and if so I want to get it fixed before the warranty expires.
It has done 77,000 miles so not huge and I would not have expected noticeable wear at this stage
Any thoughts welcome, is it just me or is the box beginning to wear |

They usually go into top gear, then the torque convertor locks up. If not much load, it almost happens at once. If more load, then it takes a little longer. |

Dave,
Thanks, so it sounds like this is normal behaviour, and me getting paranoid about perceived problems. It always helps to have an explanation for a given set of circumstances.
Thanks for your help
