Hello - upper ball joints are my list to do as well but I haven’t tried yet. To prepare, I have been watching some YouTube videos. Look for ‘Timmy the toolman’ and search for ‘upper ball joint replacement’. He is working on a Toyota 4Runner but the chassis/suspension is very similar to ours. It looks quite an involved job, requiring the whole steering knuckle to be removed. _________________ 1999 KZJ95R |

I let the garage do mine by the time I bought the ball joint press and the aggro working on the floor I let the garage do them, the one that come of was just noisy but was not loose. My advise is don't buy the cheap ones for £15 the c clip would not fit and had to be machined and the boot is a poor fit. |

The upper ball joint isn't actually to bad to do, I just used a simple 3 leg bearing puller to firstly separate the ball joint from the upper wishbone and then to remove it from the steering knuckle (and to push the new one back in to the steering knuckle). I did both sides in situ. Be warned they take a lot of pressure to get out and do go with a bang but it is a manageable job. _________________ Glyn
