I'm starting to get rust bubbles around the windshield of my '97 Prado. The body shop is asking a fortune to fix it (big or small fortune, depends if they can re-use the original windscreen). How has everyone else dealt with this? Is there another way to stop the rust from spreading that doesn't involve windscreen removal?
Thanks for your help, Tempur

Mine was rusty along the top edge when I got it 8 years ago, I had it rubbed down and sprayed just along the top edge. It's just about held up but there is a clear sign of bubbling up again. I think the best option is to remove the screen and do as good a job as possible but it depends on how long you think you'll keep it and what you are prepared to spend.

About five years ago i had a water leak at the top of the screen where the sealant had started to come away from the bodywork. I raked out as much old sealant as possible and noticed a lot of scratches down to bare metal where I'd removed it (not caused by me!) - thanks very much RAC Windscreens for the *beep* job you did when replacing the screen for the previous owner. It's clear this is what started the rusting process in my opinion. Has your screen ever been replaced? RAC were stupid enough to print their logo on my replacement screen.

Thanks for sharing.  Indeed, the body shop that inspected my vehicle mentioned the poor windscreen replacement job (under the previous owner).

I have a similar problem on mine. A few years ago I tried a rust converter which may have slowed it but I know at some point I will need to remove the windscreen and do a proper job of it.  Mine is quite bad on the near side.
