Hi All,

Has anyone a novel suggestion for getting access to the underside to apply Bilt Hamber (or similar) to the chassis etc in an attempt to halt galloping corrosion?  Old and decrepit as I am I would need to get about 4' clearance in order to sit up to air spray without getting more on me than the car.

Digging a pit is not a practical answer as nowhere convenient to site a pit. Cheapest 4 post lift is about £2200 new single phase, but if I could halt the corrosion the car would see me out.

Myself and Karl just use 4 ramps and drive up, we've just done our lc underneath with combination of brush and spray. Obviously that wont give you 4 ft clearance, and its awkward laying on your back side to keep the gun at arms length, but nanageable without getting smothered. Another thought as you are out there on farmland, stacks of pallets/ramps built to what you want.

Good suggestions by TN!  The ramps make it a lot easier, but you do still have to get down there.

Also consider Lanoguard - you can basically spray that stuff anywhere so you don't have to be that scientific about it.

If you put it on with a decent compressor you can just spray it under and let the compressor do the work.

That's not to say it's going to be easy if you can't get down underneath it.

Have you seen those pressure washer jet attachments you can roll under the car to clean the underside?  Maybe a combination of that and Lanoguard would give half decent protection without having to get down under there....

I bought a ltr tin of Lanaguard a couple of years ago, it was reviewed in the agricultural press as good for protecting machinery. I thought it was overpriced and not up to much and have most of the tin unused.  After all there's nothing novel about sheep's wool grease, Used to use it as a lad as 'hand cream' to cut Kale for the cattle in winter.

Rather sticky to apply by brush and doubt would spay effectively.

I feel you need to get underneath to get whatever your using into the hidden corners where corrosion is most prevalent.

HI Dafydd,

I think youre right in that theres really no substitute for getting underneath if you can - the more time and effort you can spend underneath it, the better the job will be!

Personally I'm not sure I'd fancy putting a LC on a cheap four post lift though, and then standing underneath the thing for hours!

Interesting you dont rate Lanoguard - there's lots of people using sprays to apply it and it seems to work OK once its warmed up a bit.

I put it on mine earlier this year, applied it fine with a compressor, so we will see how it goes.

To be fair though, I did a bit of work before that preparing the chassis, so the lanoguard was the last thing I applied.

Like a rotisserie, but instead of a chicken you put a car in it.

You can always post an item number if you want.

I'm not sure it's suitable for what Dafydd needs though tbh
