Short of any recommendations on here Paul, just done a quick Google search, and there are several family/one man bands in your area, that take on sorts of jobs. One A.G. mobile welding secialises in vehicles and has good reviews. Obviously I cant recommend/vouch for him, but check him out. Thats a start ! 😁

Hi again.
I phoned A G welding services.. No luck  this time.

The Nearside turret is in a bad way. I had another look today. The rest of the axle is Ok . The bolts holding the track rods are very tight, I thought if I purchased a new axle casing I could do the job myself to save a few quid but room is required to get enough leverage. The axle change does not look too bad.

Hi

Thanks for the PM.
I have emailed and tried to phone, but no contact so far. We shall see.

Making good the turrets may be difficult while the axle is on the truck...  If they were prefabricated and made the same shape as the LCs that would be great. Given the problem with these
I would have thought some one may have already done this.. Like all the Land Rover parts.

Thanks again for your help.

Paul

👍 ok Paul, keep trying mate. He probably only operates in working hours.
Yes, even though there are certain problem areas on older landcruisers that crop up from time to time, no one seems to have come up with off the shelf repair parts like the green oval. Having said that land rover design seemed to stay the same for years without much change, so more realistic to make repair parts that cover all those years.
Someone on the other side had this same problem last year, and with the axle off, he found someone to make/weld the new parts then weld to axle, so it is possible with the right chap. Ernie sounds like that chap if not too far for you and you can get hold of him. 😊

Hi Again.
I have tried to contact the person you suggested both by phone and email but no reply so far.

I think I may  order a new axle casing from Toyota.......That will sort the problem but its not cheap. But cheaper than replacing my truck.

It's amazing isn't it ? No one seems to want to work these days despite ads for work !
Yep, it seems a gen replacement is only option left, at least no welding involved, and everything done by yourself in your own time, without relying on unreliables.
Have you considered trying to contact Simon Holton ? He works at a Toyota dealership, and his name often crops up for members discount parts ?
As I said before Paul, as your lc is in otherwise good order, youre not going to get much else for the same price as a new axle.
Good luck with it all mate, thanks for coming back, and let us know how it all pans out.

Agree Andy,
Amayama and Partsouk are good suppliers of Toyota parts at cheaper rates, they are also subject to import/vat which seems to be worse since Brexit. Any cost is not factored into prices, and customs bill you direct before releasing it.
I think a large heavy item like an axle casing would come with a big bill. Worth enquiring though.

Hi Again.
Thanks again for all your help.

I will make a few inquires . I will have another word with my local garage tomorrow. I trust these guys they build and race Land Rover based 4x4  trucks so they know what they are doing.
again will they want to do the job?

Hi Again,
No luck with the Amayama Trading Company.    Permanently out of stock.

A Land Rover 4x4 local company near by had a look a the old girl this morning. They said they can fix it. They have loads of experience welding Land Rovers. (Never seen so many broken LR)
The guys there were very helpful. I will let you know how I get on.

It will be  a couple of weeks.

Paul
