Decided to change the oil and filter on my lc invincible, I've been using one of those magnetic sump plugs from roughtrax for a while now but when I screwed the plug back in it snapped, hadn't even got all the way in ,don't know if it is because they are aluminium but it's been in and out for at least two previous oil changes without any problems, luckily I still had the old steel plug and when I screwed this in it tightened all the way, so now I've half the magnetic plug inside the sump, anyone else ever had this problem, also the nearside driveshaft boot has split ,is this a big job to replace, thanks for any advice, |

I have a magnetic sump plug from roughtrax that I got in 2014 and have done 13 oil changes with it in , one thing I found with the magnetic plug when I first went to fit it was the magnet was way too long and crashed against the oil pickup strainer , so I cut off half of the magnet length so it no longer catches on to the oil pickup strainer , I after a bit I noticed roughtrax advertised them as improved versions , but I am pretty sure with them being made of aluminium the plug would be weakened if fitted when it is left to crash against the oil pickup , as with all aftermarket parts one should make sure they fit properly and if not be prepared fettle them to fit right because like that same sump plug it was listed on the packaging to fit nissans and other makes because like a lot of after market parts like magnetic sump plugs etc they are made as multi fitment makes and models . hope that helps . |

Having just looked on rough trax site the new improved one looks like the ones one e bay for around 2 quid with free delivery from china , and I dont like the look of the thinner shaft where the washer sits , mine that I got looks a much better quality and is black not purple and mine has a length of 16mm from the base if you measure it with out the washer so around 15mm with the washer , it was about 22mm long when I got it and I took at least 6mm off it , so 20mm maybe still too long but not sure about that . never fitted a drive shaft boot yet , but I would guess you will need to remove the wheel bearing first to be able to get to fit a new boot . |

Thanks for the replies, have decided to have the engine sump removed and check the oil pick up for any damage, have ordered a new sump pan, might as well replace it as the old one is looking a bit rusty, should have just kept using the original plug but thought the magnet would be a good idea, was going to wait till the next oil change was due, but with the possibility of restricted oil getting to the engine think I will get it done soon, |
