Inside the front wheel arch of the 04 Prado I am welding, the inner plastic shroud has been a challenge. The hex head screws all came out easily enough, only to reveal that the plastic grommets they screw into still held the shroud in place! I would have imaged that all of the "grommets" were installed in the wing, then the shroud offered up to be retained by the screws? In the end I had to dig out all of the plastic grommets to release the shroud.

Having now bought a dozen new grommets to refit the shroud, (£30) I face the question; Should I put them back the same way with the grommets holding the shroud and the screws providing a back up insurance - or fit them as I think they should ie grommet, then shroud, then screw? The reason I ask for opinions on this is that the holes in the shroud are square! This suggests that they are designed to have the grommets pass through them - otherwise they would simply be round to accept the screws? Also - on the fiche at the local dealers, they only list 6 screws for 12 grommets - so it seems a half and half approach!

Once the shroud is back on I dont expect it will ever move again - I just like to know it's done right.

Thank you for your attention.
