Im about to buy a K reg 2.4 efi, 46K (miles) and its immaculate but I need to get a new turbo as the one on it is full of oil and the engine smokes as a result.

I presume it is the turbo - been quoted £188 for a reconditioned unit. Read a few scare stories on here about this engine getting too hot - have I reason to be worried and is there any steps I can take/mods to improve reliability?

Thanks for any help.

The cyl head has poor coolant flow. There is not much you can do except keep the coolant system in perfect condition and ease off on the throttle on hills.
When eventually it does blow a gasket or crack the head ,you can put the head from a 3L engine on and it should last longer.
