I could use some help getting an avatar sorted. I have done it for other sites before now, but man I'm struggling this time. I use a Mac, so I have graphic converter, iphoto, photoshop elements and some others.

When I try to resize using either pixels x pixels or total image size in kb I cannot get it down to that size. The original photo is big, taken on a DSLR.
When I set the parameter and click apply, it doesn't go to that size! Arrghh!

Is it due to the fact that the original has so much detail that it CANNOT be reduced down to a few kb? I mean I'm talking about the original being a couple of Mb. Do I need to take another and reduce the image quality and size to start with?

Hiya mate,

Yeh pretty quiet round these parts. I sold my Isuzu quite some time ago but still hang around the Trooper Owners club for obvious reasons.  Wink

Any image can be resized to my knowledge. The avatar I use in it's orginal form is similar to your situation, around 2MB give or take.

I'm not familiar with MAC at all sorry, otherwise would help.

Not sure if this is of any use or not:
mac.softpedia.com/get/Graphics/iResize.shtml

Good luck - still having problems, flick me an email:

Thanks Mike. I'll check that out. I simply don't understand why I cannot get it any smaller. It's dry today, so I'm going to take another picture with lower camera settings and see if that does the trick.

My cellphone camera takes several 100KB photos  Shocked  They look shocking to be honest  Very Happy

I'd recommend the resizing over taking a low qual pic - but whatever works I guess.

If you can get the pic down to below 2MB then I'm happy to resize it for you if problems persist. Prefer 2MB or under, but if a little bit over that's not a problem. We're on broadband internet connection, but it's not great.

Send to my email (listed above and in profile) if you're keen, or fed-up with tyring

Hah Haaa. Success. I got an application called 1zoom from tinternet. One click. Does exactly what it says on the tin. I have some good application but no matter what settings I put in - it just wouldn't come out that size! This says "What do you want?" "This picture at this sizes please" 2 seconds later - sorted!

Thank heavens for freeware.

Many thanks for the offers boys. Sorted now.

I downloaded this application and then the next time I tried to log on I had no internet, then after much mucking about I had to phone Pipex, don't like having to do that as the support phone number has changed to a premium rate number since tiscali took them over, any way it looks like my DNS numbers had changed, not sure if it was this programme that did it.
