|
|
Hi,
I've just bought a Japanese spec 1998 Amazon VX 4.2 and it has a little red button on the panel just in front and to the left of the Auto gearshift lever. I can't find this in the english version manual and the label is of course in Japanese. Can someone tell me what it does please?
Cheers
John |

It's probably the auto gear stick release button to allow the stick to be moved whilst the engine is off. |

Think it's only on imports.

On my non-import the big black button on the top right of the auto shift serves the same purpose. |

Thanks - you were spot on with your first post - on my import model, when the engines not running you can't press that big black button and shift out of park - unless you hold the little red button down. A safety interlock I presume. |

That's a very good safety feature.
It would have prevented the near accident in my driveway; where a 3-year-old climbed into his parents' car, and managed to move the gearshift out of park. The car rolled backwards, the boy fell out and was pushed down by the open door, while the car stopped a bit further down where the hill ended, with me trying to stop the car with my hands. A bit of a shock for all of us, but no damage to anybody or anything.
I suppose this feature/device/button is required by the law in some countries...
I've started to always apply the handbrake hard when there are children around. _________________ 2004 HDJ100 AHC Auto 160'km, ex 2000 HDJ100, ex 1997 HZJ80GX Africa edition. |
