Can anybody tell me the price of an 80 series when new in 1997/98?

Interesting. £8-9k for a 97/98 doesn't seem so bad. What about GS, or was this model discontinued before the 98 year? There seems to be very little difference in used values between GS / GX and VX. I guess options would pump these prices even higher.
Was a/c standard on GX? Some come with sunroof, some don't so i guess this was another option.
My perfect machine is a VX manual with service history and reasonable mileage, but seems very difficult to find.
Thanks for the info. _________________ Frederick (London SW15)

The listing for 1998 Amazons only covers those three models so maybe the GS had been discontinued by then as it was the last year of production for the 80 series.
The GX sometimes has some of the toys but the VX, certainly from 95 on had air con, leather, cruise, diff locks, electric seats etc as standard.
Also bear in mind that a 4.5 petrol can be picked up in better nick with far less miles for a lot less money than a similar spec diesel. Round town it is going to use more fuel - about 13-15mpg is what I get - but on the motorway there is virtaully nothing to choose between them at 80mph. (Mine does about 21mpg cruising at 80).
If it cost you £2500 on the price by getting a diesel then doing an average of 10,000 miles a year it would be two years before you'd recouped the money in fuel savings. For me it would be more like three. On top of that the 4.5 is faster, quieter and more of a pleasure to drive - I've owned both.

I've seen some tempting petrol bargains on autotrader, typically VX models. I guess I should test drive one before committing to a diesel. _________________ Frederick (London SW15)
