Hello,
I picked up my new alternator today.
This, (I hope) is what the old one looked like when it was also new.

For an alternator from Toyota, surprisingly cheap 183.00 plus 30.00 deposit
Local factors were quoting 255.00 for re-manufactured.
I got it from Bentley's, my local Warrington Toyota dealer, I have nothing but praise.
I asked if it would be better to put a genuine Toyota alternator on?
No he said, this is exactly what we put on.They are the same.
When I looked at the genuine Toyota, side by side and the re-manufactured for Toyota,
The only difference was, my alternator has an extra word. "re-manufactured"
It looks brand new, just like the identical Toyota one.
I recall the brand new Toyota was 235.00 |

Does anyone know what the output amperage is ont he alternator? And does it differ for the 4.0 V6 vs the D4D twin-battery setup?
Also - has anyone put a solenoid into the standard twin battery setup to isolate the second battery when the ignition is off, so that in-car electrical kit (e.g. compressor-driven fridges, air compressors, auxilliary fluorescent lights etc.) can run off the isolated battery instead of draining both batteries - the 'starter' battery would be isolated from current draw. The solenoid would isolate on ignition off, and re-engage once the alternator is charging and a positive charge detected....
Thanks,
Gary |

Hi Gary,
The images of the alternator I posted above are for the 3.0 L D4-d
The 120 series have the twin battery set up.
They are connected in parralel, so the both give power to the starter, and both receive re-charge current from the alternator.
they are not separated by any solenoid,, but I suppose you could install a large capacity current solenoid.

Replace the () with [] brackets
so (url=www.tlocuk.co.uk)Link(/url) gives link
Is that the right one for yours? I need to look if it fits mine.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the linky info.
The one at the top that i posted, went right on.
Toyota have a replacement time of 1.5 hours.
But, you or me, read 'all day'
There is air-con in the way, has to be done from under and on top,
They had to re-gas the air con for some reason.
For which I refused to pay.
I was quoted equiv. of £160.00
When I got there Toyota wanted £320.00
Or close to !
Any way, I just paid the original price quoted.
It looks the same, but I was thinking the main power out terminal looks on the 180 deg. wrong side.
Also, the pulley is different, could be easy, or a *beep* to remove an old pulley.
For that price, I will take a chance. |

I did notice the pully would not be right for yours, but could be changed. But its the right pully for mine as I have the old V belts. I have sent a message to see if it will fit mine. But if not I can always flog it on a LR forum as people whp do winch comps always want a bigger one.

Oh yes, with the link thing. If you change url to img then you can link to pictures so they come up on the forum. Also if you use both then you can do clickable pictures. But I would have to remember how to do that.
