|
|
It seems as if the cost of insuring an import is twice that of a UK model.
I have tried at least 20 different insurers but only 2 were below £200 and most around £250-350 for a 3 dr 1996 Prado.
I decided in the end to stick with L&V who insured my Daihatsu 4Trak and paid an extra £56 for the last 6 months of the year to change the cover. It gives me time to sort an alternative but that equates with around £220 for me for a year.
If it had been a Colorado then the cost would have been the same as the Daihatsi £107( cost at renewal in Nov 08) (Now £119 on internet) for fully comp protected bonus and claas 1 business use for self and wife. L&V are good in 95% of quotes but not for imports unfortunately. |

I have spent 3 hours today trying to insure the wife's new 3 door Prado.
That was a b****y shock.
Cheapest I could get for her was with Adrian Flux at £380. Not massive in the grand scheme of things, but at 40, with years of driving experience, no claims and no convictions I thought it was a bit over the top. Even if I insured as the main driver it was the same.
Very annoyed with the confused.com and the others. They all give quotes for Jap imports, then when you phone they say no, sorry, we don't do imports.
I think the most annoying thing is that the insurance for my 4.2 VX80 is over £140 less. How does that work then? _________________ Les

Admiral and elephant.co.uk both cover imports, providing there is a similar model to it, in the UK. I think the main concern is getting parts, so avoid buying anything rare and unusual. |

Lots of companies do offer cover but at what a price.
Admiral quoted over £300 and Elephant nearer £400 TODAY for a vehicle that is as near as dammit a Colorado which I can insure with the same cover for around £120. |

Then it may well be worth a call to LV or even DIY on the internet. |

I hadn't joined the site before insuring so didnt know about Chris Knott. The others were tried among the multitude I obtained a quote from before deciding to stick with LV - my p-resent insurer.
I will however try Chris before renewing in November. |

Just an update.
Renewed the SWB Prado through L & V in the end as they were cheapes by quite a way.
Cost me £205 for Fully comp, protected NCB with class 1 business use for self and wife.
The only thing wrong was they up'd the excess to £350 from £250 that I had last year. |

have to admit that I have always stayed away from Prados because they are often imports with insurance problems. VX80s are getting a bit long in the tooth now, 100 series are too high-spec and pricey for me so I am scratching my head a bit just now.
I have a Nissan Terrano bought as a short-term cheap fill-in, it's good mechanically and clean but I just don't like it. A Jeep Cherokee last year was an expensive disappointment and I won't be going down THAT avenue again.
I'm open to suggestions really? |

Just renwed my Prado after numerous quotes that were all more expensive than LV.
Once again £207 for fully comp, protected no claims with business use for self and wife and as last year £350 excess. There is no Foreign use as I would nevver use it abroad. |
