Hi,
This is probably a really stupid question from a newbie. Im hoping once I have some AT tyres to do some mild offroading in my 96' Prado.
A friend few friends of mine took me out in their Landrovers the other day to give me an ide of what to expect. Some of the trails seemed to put us on some sharp angles, although im sure it felt much steeper in the car as what it actually was.
I was wondering if there is a maximum tilt angle before alarm bells should start ringing and the car will tip over sideways, assuming standard weight distrubtion. Ive looked in the handbook but cant find anything.
I gather that when offroading you want to go at 90 degrees to a steep hill up or down, but on a narrow lane that is on an angle I guess thats not always an option.
Thanks for any info
Cheers,
James |

Hmm, I've seen those figures somewhere. When banking over, there are two basic situations. Traversing a bank where all four wheels are on the slope and banking over where two wheels are on the level, say when passing on a narrow road with two wheels up the bank. The former situation is an extremely hazardous undertaking as there is nothing to stop you sliding and potentially overturning. The latter is a little safer. Adding weight to a roof rack makes this doubly worse of course. It's not to be done without sound knowledge and experience. Of course adding winches, bumpers, bash plates etc all lower the COG too, don't forget. Are you sure it's not in the handbook?
