Hello all,

Well, after a long and cold winter, I feel it is right to get my 120 into Toyota, or similar, and get all the nipples, and grease points done.

Honestly, I feel I will take it to a 'general garage repair' and ask them to put it on the lift, and get their grease gun out.

What do you think ? You have all seen the snow and the cold, here.

Almost every time I have gone out in the bad snow, I have gone through an automatic car wash afterwards.
Now, don't confuse the automatic car washes in UK, after seeing the Norwegian auto washes, these here are VERY VERY  good.
(Start price is 18.00 pounds ! gulp !

Are there grease nipples on the underbody, suspension, and the drive train ?

Any one care to pop a list up of where the grease points are ?

thanks,

'vette

As far as I remember the only grease points are on the propshafts - grease the UJs on either end, but be careful when greasing the sliding joint - too much grease can lead to hydraulicing putting excessive pressure on your trasfer case and diffs - ideally take the prop shafts off and clean the old grease out of the splines and then liberally apply fresh grease just using your finger.

Just to add to what Julian has said - from my very limited experience!! I found the it was easy to squirt grease all round the nipple on each of the 4 UJs. However, none of it was actually going into the joint.

The narrow access to the nipple meant that I had to take a coupling off an old (cheap) grease gun and fit it onto my nice new one. The old coupling was a smaller diameter and it allowed the gun to line up with the nipple. Then - having put the coupling onto the nipple - I rotated the gun round 360 degrees and it seemed to make a good seal. The grease went into the joint rather than just filling up the space around the nipple. You could see the caps on the ends of the joint oozing black grease showing it was actually being replaced by new stuff. If the oozing doesn't happen start again!

The end result if this was that the vibration through the transfer box lever went from a sharp harsh almost rattle to a nice smooth throb.

As for the sliding yokes, little and often seems to be better than the big bang approach.

I think all this talk about nipples has got me a bit overheated. I will go and lie down in a dark corner for an hour or so!

Willy
